Concrete Staining

Whether your concrete project is interior or exterior, if you’re looking to add character to your floor, incorporating stain or a dye to your finish system can really enhance your project.

While there are many methods for imparting color, the two most popular and recognized are Acid and Dye staining. We serve western Oregon from Portland to Salem to Eugene and the entire coast.

Acid Staining

Acid staining is a reactive process that occurs between the metallic salts within the acid stain and the calcium hydroxide in the concrete. The acid etches the surface of the concrete allowing the metallic salts to penetrate the concrete and thus create a marbling effect and the unique color variations desired. Because acid stains are primarily earth tones, they often resemble natural stone, granite, or even wood. Additionally, we typically enhance the color and surface resiliency by adding a penetrating sealer after neutralizing the acid, and because each piece of concrete is unique, no two floors ever look the same.

Dye Staining

Dye staining, unlike acid, comes from a raw powder that disperses with a solvent or water. Dye stains impart color or various hues to the surface of the concrete, but they do not penetrate. Dye stains have a more opaque look, and when contrasted along with an acid stain, they add a lot of visual pop.
