Surface Prep
In addition to installing Polished Concrete, Epoxies, or other resinous floor coatings like Polyaspartic, proper preparation of your concrete surface is the key to the success of your project.
We serve western Oregon from Portland to Salem to Eugene and the entire coast. Our new Austin, Texas location serves the Greater Austin area from Round Rock to Kyle and the surrounding areas.
Clean & Resurface the Concrete
Minimally you will need to start with a clean slab that is free of surface contaminants that can interfere with the bond of your finish. Grinding and shot blasting are excellent methods for removing adhesives before cleaning and resurfacing concrete.
Address Surface Imperfections
Once the slab is clean and dry, it’s time to address surface imperfections like chips, cracks, or other irregularities that will affect your finish. Micro toppings or “skim coats,” which are polymer-based systems, may be applied as thin, flexible layers to correct some defects or often as a desirable troweled finish.
Overlayment
When surface requirements are more extensive, or unevenness has occurred, an overlay is an excellant alternative to breaking up and replacing an existing slab. They can be applied in varying thicknesses, can be self-leveling and bond directly to the existing prepped concrete slab providing a great foundation for many decorative finishes, including polished.
Underlayment
When other flooring options are of consideration, we install underlayments. Like an overlay, they can be applied to correct defects like an uneven surface and are part of the overall surface prep. The main difference between an overlay and an underlay is that the underlayment goes between the slab or subflooring and the finish topping like tile. Even where ideal slab conditions exist, installing an underlay makes sense. These provide a damp proof membrane between concrete and tile, act as additional shock absorbency for carpet or wood and improve sound and temperature insulation significantly.
